Rovaniemi, the capital of Finnish Lapland and the centre of the region's trade and commerce, offers a lively city location as an alternative base for your search for Santa.

Situated just inside the Arctic Circle at the confluence of Lapland's mighty Kemijoki and Ounasjoki rivers, the city provides a number of tourist attractions, good shopping, restaurants and nightlife.

Our Encounter short breaks based in Rovaniemi include a fun-packed Christmas Magic trip that takes in a magical search for Santa, and a journey to a reindeer farm where guests can take part in winter activities like a husky dog ride and a reindeer sled ride.

There is also a great range of additional optional activities available. Also just ten minutes from the centre of Rovaniemi is Ounasvaara, the wilderness winter activities resort that reaches almost to the heart of a thriving city.

Ounasvaara fell rises some 600 metres and offers downhill skiing as well as a host of other winter activities.

3 days – 2 nights

• Day 3: Reindeer Farm Activities. Remainder of afternoon at leisure or choose an optional activity.

WHAT'S INCLUDED:

CHRISTMAS MAGIC TRIP (including search for Santa): Deep amid the forest surrounded by snow-covered landscape lies the magical setting of our winter activities.The 12km snowmobile route on our search for Santa stops off along the way at many activity points, allowing you to enjoy a reindeer sleigh ride, a husky sled ride, tobogganing and reindeer lassoing. Finally we reach the area where Santa is rumoured to have his cabin.This is the highlight of the day and you will witness the gleeful faces of the children, as they are met
by Santa’s elves on their search for Father Christmas himself. Hot drinks and biscuits will be served throughout the day and you will have the opportunity to fry sausages by an open fire. The trip includes a light lunch.

REINDEER FARM ACTIVITIES: We travel to a reindeer farm where we are met by a mystical Lappish man in traditional dress.Whilst there, we enjoy a brief reindeer ride followed by a Lappish ceremony. Lunch is served at the reindeer farm where everyone will be presented with their official Reindeer driving licence.
